A few months ago, we were invited to a fabulous fundraising lunch in aid of the charity Smart Works Birmingham.
It was the first time we learned what this fantastic national charity does for women in need who are looking to get back into work.
The Birmingham centre in Digbeth opened its doors in August 2016 and since then has helped 700 local unemployed women in need, providing one-to-one interview preparation skills and confidence building, as well as free outfits for interviews, plus additional free clothing if they are offered and accept a job.
Nationally, since the charity was founded in London five years ago, more than 12,000 women have received support.
The lunch (delicious, incidentally) raised £7100 – a truly fantastic amount – and it got us thinking as to how we could support it.
A few phone calls later and we’re thrilled to announce that we’re organising a fund-raising afternoon tea next week (Thursday, July 4 2019) for the business community. Within a few hours of the invitations going out, generous men and women from across Birmingham were snapping up the tickets.
We’re really looking forward to it and have already planned a sumptuous tea for our guests. Have a look on our social media feeds to see how we get on!
