They say food is a way to a man’s (and woman’s) heart so, with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we thought we’d take a look at those ingredients that are proven to spice up your love life. Here are our top aphrodisiac foods for you to enjoy this Valentine’s…
Honey
The word ‘honeymoon’ got its name from mead; an alcoholic drink made from honey that was traditionally given to the bride and groom. It also gives you a natural energy boost. Think birds and the bees…
Olives
The Ancient Greeks believed that olives and their oil made men more virile. We’ll take their word for it.
Chilies
They get your blood pumping, stimulate nerve endings and make you sweat. Enough said.
Chocolate
Chocolate’s Latin name is Theobroma or “food of the gods”. This dark, rich, sensual treat also contains phenylethylamine, which is similar to the drug that’s released when you fall in love.
Figs
A favourite of Adam and Eve’s, particularly the leaves, figs have often been considered an aphrodisiac – possibly due to their appearance when cut open!
Oysters
Okay so they’re on every aphrodisiac list but it has been proven that the high levels of zinc within oysters are great for people’s sex drive.
Whipped cream
We couldn’t resist adding this to the list. There’s nothing that really makes whipped cream an aphrodisiac but just imagine the fun you can have!
